Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 From PlayStation Store, Refunds To Be Issued To Those Requested

The eight year wait for the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077 felt like the evitable waiting game as delay after delay continued to stack on only pushing the release date further. But alas, the December launch remained and the game shipped of its listed platforms. However, the quality of the actual product on last-generation systems is mediocre to say it nicely. And if the game did happen to be pushed a few more month – it would source more jokes, but at least the game might be playable.

Since first brought up for discussion, CD Projekt Red did issue an apology as to not being vocal on the status of the game for Xbox One & PlayStation 4. Even on the enhanced iterations, the game still suffers greatly. But the developer did press that the title will be receiving bug-squashing patches that will roll out in January and the following February next year.

But still not being very transparent on the matter, it looks that Sony Interactive Entertainment took the matter into its own hands. On Thursday, it was discovered that the PlayStation firm delisted Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store. Here is the statement left on its page:

SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store.  SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.

Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund.  Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution.

The situation at hand does encourage the idea that a similar situation is cooking for Microsoft as well. But, that does not seem to be the case in actuality. According to a response briefed by Reuters, CD Projekt Red did not speak with Microsoft on the situation. “We are not in such discussions with Microsoft at the moment,” Adam Kicinski, CD Projekt Red CEO told the publication.

This also comes to conjure how future dealings with Microsoft will unravel following the reception of Cyberpunk 2077. Rectify Gaming back in 2017 reported the marketing deal for the game among other heavy hitters at the time, and later granted to be accurate. But for the company’s relationship with Microsoft, it could potentially sour if things continue to go south.

Elsewhere recently, CD Projekt Red issued a report which revealed that the firm already earned its investment for Cyberpunk 2077. The developer pressed that the game’s pre-orders already paid for the title’s complete development budget. You can read the full report by heading here.
