Sony Teases New IP ‘Patapon’ At CES, Announces New Monthly Player Milestone Of 123 Million Players

When exploring new releases coming to PlayStation in 2024, there is a handful of titles to look forward to. Part of its publishing venture, it is confirmed that titles like Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Foamstars, and Condor are coming this year. The firm also did press that both Silent Hill 2 Remake & Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater are aimed for this year; the latter is a multiplatform release though in a recent promotional trailer.

In terms for engagement on the platform, it is no secret the success PlayStation continues to face. Closing out 2023, it was revealed that the PlayStation 5 already sold more than 50 million units. Additionally, a separate report disclosed that PlayStation 5 sales have now over-lapped Xbox Series hardware yet again – now besting the Microsoft consoles by 3:1, Ampere Analysis shares.

At CES this week, Sony during its presentation confirmed the overall player base on PlayStation met a new high. In that, it confirmed over 123 million monthly users were present in December 2023. “The overall number of monthly, active users for PlayStation in December was 123 million accounts which is record high,” Sony Group CEO Kenichiro Yoshida states.

Elsewhere from CES in a separate ‘Realizing Vision’ Sony Official trailer, Sony Group also shares a glimpse at a new IP Papaton coming to PlayStation it appears. In the brief footage given, it is presented to be a 2.5D platformer. Although context is limited from the peek at the project, developer, platform, and release was not provided on the new IP project.

Also at CES, Sony pressed on its upcoming films. In that, both The Legend of Zelda was given some attention alongside a Gravity Rush trailer was also shared in a separate format as well from the event. You can read the full report by heading here.
