Square Enix Announces Long-Awaited Sequel NEO: The World Ends With You

Predating back to the era of the then-growing Nintendo DS, players were hit with a massive shock wave of a game that was The World Ends with You. At the time, the game happened to be one of the few that set directly in the heart of metropolitan area of Tokyo which visually grabbed many players. Atop of that, the game’s organic RPG combat system and the overall universe grasped the attention of fans avid for the genre.

Now more than a decade following the release of the Nintendo DS title, Square Enix announces that the game will be returning with a follow-up. Announcing NEO: The World Ends with You, the game breaks its 2D appearance from preceding hardware to a completely renewed 3D environment with an entirely new cast of characters in the district of Shibuya.

“NEO: The World Ends with You transports players to the streets of the Shibuya, where they will take part in the ‘Reapers’ Game,’ a life-or-death battle for survival,” the overview for the game reads in the press release. “Players will take on the role of Rindo as they explore the heart of Tokyo to uncover the mysteries behind the sinister Game in which they have been forced to take part.

“NEO: The World Ends with You brings a re-creation of modern Shibuya to life in a unique and comic-inspired style. Players can explore and enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of this bustling city, fight monsters alongside their ally companions in fast-paced action battles, and complete missions as they seek to change the fate they’ve been handed.”
