Just a few days earlier, Microsoft as per its usual periodic update broke news on what new games will be coming to Xbox Game Pass for the remainder of March 2021. What came from the announcement alongside the teased additions previously is that Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler is to debut for Xbox in the coming days. Notably, the game only released for Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia – so it would be presumed a PlayStation version would be the last of the bunch.
But, that might not be the case. While the port for Xbox is scheduled for next Thursday, March 25, the Japanese publisher did not elaborate on the game coming to PlayStation. Howbeit, many users suspected that the announcement would come in the form of a follow-up statement. Square Enix told that the firm would be hosting a self-named showcase on Thursday, so it would make sense to hear something there.
However, as the show came and went there was still no clarification. Following the presentation, Square Enix in a statement to Gematsu issued that there is no statement at this time in regards to Octopath Traveler on PlayStation.
To consider why that might be, it is suggested that Microsoft arranged a deal with Square Enix to offer a limited-time release on Xbox before PlayStation gets its hands on Octopath Traveler. But, there is still a possibility on an announcement to take place before the game’s Xbox debut. So perhaps there is more to the story and the firm chooses not to spoil anything – so we shall see.
In regards to similar entities underway at Square Enix, the publisher previously announced Project Triangle Strategy. The game shares a close resemblance to the 2018 JRPG in terms of appearance, but elaborates on a three-point combat system. A demo is available now on Nintendo Switch.
