The greater Star Wars universe has grown immensely over the past few years. One of the most celebrated additions is the video games that connect the Lucasfilm franchise. In 2019, Respawn Entertainment did so with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The new story, another plot set between Episode III & Episode IV, introduces protagonist Cal Kestis portrayed by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham).
Monaghan went on to also reprise his role in the 2023 sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In our review for the follow-up, we wrote: “While the game doesn’t move the genre forward meaningfully, it’s still an excellent game that I highly recommend to any Star Wars fan. It’s the next great Star Wars single-player game that many of us have been waiting for since the original one surprised all of us.”
What’s more is that fans are awaiting Monaghan’s character to appear in one of the countless live-action projects at Disney. Even with the BD unit appearing on both The Book of Boba Fett & The Mandalorian, it’s a matter of time until Cal Kestis is on screen. In an interview with The Direct, Monaghan tells he’s open to the idea under the right material.
“It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there,” Monaghan says. “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.”
Extending where Cal Kestis could appear is as soon as next year. It is already known that Respawn Entertainment is working on a new Star Wars first-person shooter. The most recent earnings shares Electronic Arts is to ship the game in 2025. A new report tells that the game will be The Mandalorian which could bridge the two series.
