Starbreeze Confirms Payday 3 Release Aimed For 2022 In Latest Financial Report

This past year for Swedish publisher Starbreeze Studios looks to have been a downward spiral as well anticipated projects did not meet fan expectations and the company facing the brink of closure within the coming 12 months. Although fate does look to be slipping out of the publisher’s hands, they are however hopeful that one game will dig them out of this problem: Payday 3.

Starbreeze prior to the current issues that plague the company did confirm that the game was in development back in 2016, but many would not have predicted the state the publisher would be in now when seeing the publisher reacquire the game’s rights back then. Fast forwarding to the Q1 2019 financial report for Starbreeze, the report confirms the company depending on the coming third installment to really be their shot out of near bankruptcy.

Assuming that the company would need this sooner than later, the game’s expected release date you would think be before the next generation of consoles as the imminent publisher shutdown likely pointed to happen before then. However, in this latest financial report from the Swedish company, Payday 3 is scheduled to release as early as 2022.

“Publishing agreement for PAYDAY 3 concluded* during the first half of 2020 and an initial payment installment is received, after which the continued development of the product is financed by the publishing partner,”one segment of the report reads. “Release of PAYDAY 3 estimated to take place in 2022–2023.”

This new report from the publisher also revealed the company’s work towards restructuring the entirety of Starbreeze. Disclosing that the company will now be made of of two subsidies: new Strbreeze Publishing AB and New Starbreeze Studios AB. Adding on to this new layout for the company, all rights and assets will be under the publishing group for Starbreeze which is also projected to be the party that generate income for both parts of the company.
