For PlayStation this year, 2024 is being rounded primarily by second & third-party releases with platform exclusives from its internal studios mainly out of the picture. Instead, we’ve witnessed waves of other titles including the recent Helldivers 2 at the start of the year alongside Shift Up’s Stellar Blade which shipped just last month.
From our review for Stellar Blade, we wrote: “Stellar Blade is a journey through the depths of human resilience and the cost of redemption, and stands as a testament to the power of storytelling in gaming. As players embark on Eve’s quest for truth and justice, they’ll find themselves immersed in a world where every choice carries weight, and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.”
According to a new report by South Korean outlet Inven, the Stellar Blade team following the game’s success is now pondering on more support; this includes a sequel alongside a PC port. The report also mentions another IP – Project Witches – that is in development by Shift Up aimed for a multiplatform release across PC, console, and mobile. You can read the statement below (Thanks, @Okami13):
“With the launch of Stellar Blade, we join a select few companies with successful IP portfolios across all major platforms across mobile, PC, and console. Building on our track record of releasing games across a variety of platforms, we are focusing on developing the next-generation subculture IP blockbuster, <Project Witches>, as a cross-play game available on both PC and mobile.”
The document continues: “Based on our experience with titles such as Destiny’s Child, Victory: Nike, and Stella Blade, we are confident that we have the ability to successfully launch multi-platform releases for future games. AAA console titles such as God of War and Final Fantasy have shown tremendous potential, selling over 185 million and 66 million copies respectively.
“There are several precedents for AAA titles evolving into IP franchises by extending their lifespan and maintaining a long-term revenue base through a series of high-quality sequels. Accordingly, we are considering producing a PC version and sequel to <Stella Blade>.” Do you think Stellar Blade will kick off a greater franchise?
Stellar Blade is available now on PlayStation 5.
