Although the initial Batman Arkham trilogy from Rocksteady Studios is regarded as one of the most definitive experiences in gaming when it concerns expectations for comic book superheroes, the same cannot be said for its latest title – Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Since its release in January, the title has done little to retain any audience despite the near decade wait since Batman Arkham Knight.
Since then, there has only been developing turmoil for the live-service release. In one report, it was indicated that the project resulted in being a $200 million burden to Warner Bros. Discovery. Additionally, the title is only expected to deliver on its promised Year 1 content with nothing set following into the next fiscal year. Another; it is anticipated this game is why Warner Bros. is looking to license its properties to other firms more recently.
Now in a new report from Eurogamer, developer Rocksteady Studios has been hit with major layoffs still in its first year for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. According to the outlet, about half of its Quality Assurance sector has been laid off simply due to “restructuring”, Eurogamer is told.
Of course, this is likely due to the ongoing issues the game faces with little to engage new and current users as more content rolls out. QA is said to be reduced from 33 employees to only 15 as of yet. It is also reported that many of the staff that were fired are a mix of junior staff & veteran team members for Rocksteady Studios. Adding to that, this comes after new learnings that the team is already working on its next game.
First spotted by Tech4Gamers, it was discovered that Rocksteady Studios is working on its next major game. Via a LinkedIn profile for senior systems programmer Tae Ho Kang, his account revealed a new title was already in development since June 2024. “Tech Team, Unannounced project (June 2024 -),” the now-deleted description reads from Kang’s profile.
