When abiding by the improvisions to combat the spread of COVID-19 at the start of last year, the video game industry quickly witnessed the toppling of major gaming events such as E3, GDC, and Gamescom close its in-person venues scheduled for 2020. However, organizers appeared to be looking into digital alternatives to still bring the same ventures to its attendees without putting those same patrons in danger.
One that arose from the masses in an abrupt announcement is Summer Game Fest. The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley announced to be orchestrating the platform with four months of content stringing from May to August the year prior. And after witnessing the success from before, it is only natural to expect a return the following year.
In a new announcement this past week, Keighley announces that Summer Game Fest is returning later this year in June.
As for those that might recall from reveals last year, Summer Game Fest featured exciting 2020 releases like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Another namely showcase is the reveal for Unreal Engine 5 which is told to be releasing sometime later on in 2021.
Summer Game Fest is also recognized for giving indie game studios a platform with Day of the Dev collaboration. Teaming up with Double Fine Productions and IAm8Bit in June & July last year to featuring upcoming projects from independent game studios.
