Although on the sidelines for a few years, Remedy Entertainment is back and with a major hit – Alan Wake II. In our review for the long-awaited sequel, we wrote: “The four long years of development have paid off, and the passion and love from the studio truly speaks for itself. From the incredible worldbuilding and interconnected narratives to the elevated survival horror and detective case solving, Alan Wake 2 is a unique experience that you don’t want to miss.”
Additionally, development is also ramping up for its other project as well – remakes for the first two Max Payne entries. The Finnish game studio is partnering with Rockstar Games once more to manifest this venture as it rebuilds the classic action-shooter in the modern Northlight Engine. In one statement, creative director Sam Lake shared that this new project will be a one of Remedy Entertainment’s largest tasks yet – in game development & meeting expectations.
However, amid effort on the two-game collaboration with Rockstar Games, its parent company Take-Two Interactive is throwing the book at Remedy Entertainment. It was discovered that the firm has filed a dispute against the logo for the Finland developer for sharing likeness to the Grand Theft Auto team, thanks @usemyhandle on X.
In the United Kingdom, two filings for the Remedy Entertainment logo reveals that there is a new opposing party to the filing, Take-Two Interactive. “Opposition filed/Cooling off period,” the description for the status of the dispute reads. Previously, the trademark was filed in May 2023 and published by June. But, the new opposition filing was then submitted by September 2023.
This is not the first time that Take-Two Interactive has went leaps to take firms to court for this within the video game industry. Previously, it also brought the same attitude towards Hazelight Studios for the title of its release, It Takes Two. But what makes the new Remedy Entertainment situation more curious is the team being a collaborator on an ongoing project. You can read the initial report by heading here.
