In regards to developer Codemasters, the United Kingdom-based game studio remains to thrive as an independent entity working and releasing periodical installments for series like Dirt F1, and Grid. However, there is still the possibility that other, larger firms could decide to purchase the team and its resources to fully acquire Codemasters if the team agrees to the terms.

To elaborate on the hypothetical, Rockstar Games and 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive already pursued this route with ambitions for a full acquisition of Codemasters back in mid November. At the time, it was presumed to already be set in stone for the firm in overtaking the game studio. But, things begin to get interesting when Electronic Arts began to shake the cage.

Sky News reported that the publisher outbid Take-Two Interactive in the acquisition game for Codemasters in December the following month. Now, it seems that Electronic Arts might get its way now as Take-Two Interactive announces to be pulling out of the acquisition.

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO) today announced that following the December 14, 2020 announcement by the Board of Codemasters that it had withdrawn its recommendation of the Company’s offer to acquire Codemasters Group Holdings PLC, Take-Two has, with the consent of the Panel, lapsed its offer.

Currently, it is undetermined as to how publisher Electronic Arts plans to pursue the acquisition now that Take-Two Interactive leaves a clear opening for the taking. Generally, it is presumed a similar press release will be issued which discloses the publisher’s ambitions to take on purchasing Codemasters and possibly a date to solidify the transaction.

More on Codemasters and the studio’s latest work, we suggest you read our full review for Dirt 5. Rectify Gaming’s David Rodriguez tells this on his time with the game: “Dirt titles always get the typical improvements and upgrades you expect from a sequel. Better graphics, more cars, some refinements to existing systems and more along those lines. Codemasters must have felt a certain kind of way about that pattern, because Dirt 5 really takes the old franchise to new levels.” You can read the entirety of the piece by heading here.
