In all things Team Ninja, the Japanese game studio remains to be a team that stands to be associated with PlayStation primarily. With the team’s involvement with Dead or Alive or the recent Nioh franchise unique to the platform. But nearly two decades ago, the team did make unique projects for Xbox like the Ninja Gaiden trilogy. And while previous studio lead Tomonobu Itagaki pledges his allegiance to the platform, the culture at the team does not show the same sentiment in recent years.
However, Microsoft in a surprise announcement from Sunday’s showcase reveals that Team Ninja is once again working on a new game for its platform with Xbox Game Pass in mind this time around. Announcing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the new game shares plenty of DNA from Nioh for a new generation. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:
“Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty follows the dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms,” the trailer’s description reads. “Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within.”
Unlike other featured titles at the presentation, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty does not appear to be a console launch exclusive. While the game will launch with Xbox Game Pass next year, the game will still be launching on other consoles – mainly PlayStation. Currently, PlayStation 5 is not listed for the game, but it is expected the title will updated for the platform later on.
Additionally, Microsoft also branched its Japanese ties with Sega during the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase then too. In that, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal will be shipping for Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S later on starting this October. You can read the full report by heading here.
