Dontnod Entertainment, the French developer most recognized for its episodic series Life is Strange and Victorian-set adventure Vampyr just exited the past year on a high note. In the course of three months, the team issued the full experience for Tell Me Why through its partnership with Xbox Game Studios and its separate, multiplatform release – Twin Mirror. However, the studio has more than a handful of endeavors underway.

Upon speaking with GamesBeat previously, Dontnod Entertainment CEO Oskar Gilbert discloses that about six games are currently in development. “We are reinventing ourselves in terms of quality, mechanics, and technology. Finding new ways of telling stories is really important,” Gilbert shares when elaborating on future projects for the studio.

And while the roadmap is still undisclosed, there is some form of direction to look towards. In that, Dontnod Entertainment shares that a minor stake administered by Tencent Holdings for €30 million is being processed for a new project.

In connection with the Offering, Tencent Holdings Limited (‘Tencent’), a leading internet services provider, has undertaken to invest €30 million to support the studio’s development through its subsidiary Proxima Beta Europe BV. As part of this investment, Tencent has an option to propose the appointment of a representative on the Board of Directors.

The funds raised will mainly be used to finance the ramp-up of DONTNOD’s strategy to develop new self-published intellectual properties worldwide on PC, consoles and mobile platforms, and thereby take full advantage of positive trends within the industry for creators of internationally renowned and original games, such as DONTNOD.

Upon future reference for this unannounced project, it is presumed that Dontnod Entertainment will not partner with other publishers in relevance to other endeavors. So titles like Tell Me Why which only released on Xbox platforms could possibly be the last of its form in regards to Dontnod Entertainment titles.

Similarly, another Chinese firm formed a similar arrangement with Quantic Dream. In early 2019, NetEase filed a minor acquisition of the French developer to work on bringing a host of its PlayStation-exclusive titles to other platforms – mostly PC. You can read the full report by heading here.
