For roughy a year, the state of DC Comics is in the state of a readjustment with the DCEU film franchise coming to a close. And although Hollywood is in its own separate bubble, this time it also affects partly of the games side of things for the properties tied to the firm. With the previous confirmation of Rocksteady Studios leaders Sefton Hill & Jamie Walker leaving in 2022, there was uncertainty for these Arkham series.
Currently, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is inching to its upcoming February release date with pre-orders already live for the new game. Additionally, Rocksteady Studios is already committed to supporting the post-launch for this new entry with an offline mode promised; undoing the damage originally uncovered which required being online for the single player story. Now there some reassurance pertaining to the entire universe.
In a now-deleted exchange with James Gunn and a follower on Instagram, the Arkham series is not finished after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Thanks to @dcuworld on X, Gunn is noted responding that there are “no plans of it being the last!” The concern originally surfaced due to the poor response online and the initiative for the coming DCU to tie video games to the its universe respectively.
“So as many of you know, DC has been disconnected for in film and television for a very long time,” Gunn originally shared last year upon earning his new role for DC. “And its one of our jobs – mine and Peter’s [Safran] – is to come in and make sure the DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation. That the characters are consistent, played by the same actors, and it works within one story.”
Of course, there are other DC Comics titles also in the works that remain outside of the Arkham universe that is underway. Most recently, it was reported that the coming Monolith Productions Wonder Woman game that it is structured similarly to Gotham Knights visually; running at 30 frames per second.
