The Coalition Gives New Details On Gears 5’s Hivebusters DLC, Slated For December Release

Going back to Gears of War 3 in 2011 with the addition of Raam’s Shadow, a three-hour prequel experience set prior to the events of the first game, players experience the first true story add-on for the series. And while the series is well known for the expansive online content, this change of pace was surely welcomed for users looking for more context on the world created by Epic Games.

However, when Gears of War 4 came along, The Coalition which took the development torch for franchise did not include an expanded story DLC for the 2016 title. But now leading to the end of 2020, the current Gears 5 is forecasted to expect a story expansion this coming December, the developer shares with IGN.

In the interview, The Coalition elaborates on the approaching add-on dubbed ‘Hivebusters’. Derived from the squad that makes up the three-person team in the Escape Mode for Gears 5, it is expected the DLC will follow the tale of Team Scorpio’s Keegan, Lahni, and Mac.

All I can say is December and the title is Hivebusters, so it might give you a little hint as to what that content might contain. That’ll be available on the new consoles as well, so it’ll be optimized for those two.

Zoe Curnoe, Gears 5 Principle Lead Producer

Although not providing much context on the add-on set for this holiday season, The Coalition does on to further disclose that there will be more discussion on added content for Gears 5 in the early segment of December. For now, Hivebusters is slated to hit both current and next-generation systems as well as PC when it arrives later on.
