After the shock E3 announcement of the upcoming Spider-Man game, many people assumed this was just a one-off and that Xbox would soon be getting their own superhero game. However, it has now been hinted at that this game may be the start of a long-term partnership.
“We’ve had a long history of success with Activision, and we still have a great relationship with them,” head of Marvel Games Jay Ong told the Games Industry.biz. “But the future of the Spider-Man console games is with Sony and Insomniac. We’re delighted about this partnership, and that’s something that’s going to continue forward. Activision is in the past, with regards to Spider-Man.”
Activision has been the custodian of the Spider-Man license dating back from around 2000 and the PlayStation One. However after seeing the success that Warner Bros and DC have been having with Injustice and the Arkham series it’d make sense for Marvel to make a foray back into the market.
“Along with the senior execs at Marvel and my team within the games business, we devised a brand new strategy to be very selective and only partner with the best game companies on earth,” Ong continued. “We wanted to work very selectively with companies that shared our vision, our ambition, and really usher in a brand new era for the Marvel games business.”
This vision can already be seen in the trailer, which is captured using in-game footage and it looks spectacular.
