Previously it was suspected that Mortal Kombat 11 was in development following a tweet from a Spanish voice actor for the previous 2015 title. But at this year’s Game Awards the game had a surprise announcement during a game nomination.

NetherRealm’s Ed Boon joined the stage with host Geoff Keighley to announce the winner for this year’s best sports title. When showcasing the nominees for the category, the trailer for the unannounced fighting title played instead of the reel for the contending sports games. Where Boon played it off as a mishap behind the scenes.

Starting today fans will have the chance to preorder the upcoming title with the bonus of gaining access to the beta for the title.

Mortal Kombat 11 currently has a release date for April 23, 2019 and is listed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
