At the beginning of the month, it was revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment alongside first-party developer Naughty Dog will be hosting a media event to showcase the approaching The Last of Us Part II, leaving the implication that more detail will arrive following the show. And that happened exactly during today’s PlayStation State of Play livestream as now the game has an slated launch date for this coming February.

Tracking back a few months now, the release date for The Last of Us Part II actually spawned from the release date reveal for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. At least through the confidence from industry insider Jason Schreier as the Kotaku Editor disclosed to have heard a timeframe aimed for this month due to Kojima’s project taking a bit longer than expected. The upcoming sequel was then-expected to release in November, but had to be pushed to not overlay PlayStation-exclusive titles.

Naughty Dog announced the game’s release date through a trailer giving anticipated fans a larger picture of the full product for when the game arrives later this Winter. “I have to finish it,” Ellie tells Tommy as she ventures on this new journey to take on this new threatening faction she will face in the main story.

Atop of the evident visual enhancements compared to the series’ first installment, there are an abundance of new mechanics, enemies, and unique experiences that you will face when playing the approaching follow-up. And of course, the biggest surprise being the reintroduction of Joel as seen at the trailer’s ending.

The Last of Us Part II will be available on February 21, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
