The Last Update Promised For Redfall Includes Offline Mode

Almost a couple weeks ago now, Microsoft/Xbox proceeded with one of its boldest decisions for gaming: to shutter four studios attached to its $8 billion acquisition at Bethesda. The combination of teams included Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Games, Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse Studios. The decision came at a very questionable time for Xbox primarily as the direction for the platform is left unclear alongside support from its first-party teams as well.

What’s more, the closings came for one of Xbox’s most successful teams this console cycle – Tango Gameworks. Following the glowing response of Hi-Fi Rush, it left many online angered and simply mystified on the reasonings for the move. In a town hall meeting, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty stated the firm “need smaller games that give us prestige and awards,” which apparently the developer was not achieving most questionably.

In a development since the announcement, the question on support for ongoing titles is left in the air. Presumably that these games would cease any updates in the near future. That includes Redfall as the developer would be reprocessed into Zenimax Online Studios. However, it is now clarified that plans for a final update are underway.

“Thank you for all your supportive messages. We are working to release our final update, Game Update 4, that brings revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, Single Player Pausing, Offline Mode, and more. We’ll provide additional details soon. Thank you all,” the tweet reads.

Previously, Redfall was hit with a blanket of scrutiny – and this was even before discovering the state of the game’s release. In that, the title would require a constant online connection no matter even if you jumped with NPCs by yourself. Since then, the developer vouched to offer an offline mode feature some time in post-launch alongside presumed DLC that would come. Of course, add-ons are clearly out of the picture for Redfall moving forward.

But there is still an effort for quality of life improvements alongside offline mode. A few months back, Redfall did embrace a feature that was fairly expected for the game upon release – 60hz mode. You can read the full report by heading here.
