The Long Dark story mode premieres this Spring in episodic format

Hinterland has announced that The Long Dark, currently in preview on Xbox One and PC, will be getting its full game and story mode beginning this Spring. The game will feature an episodic release but the exact number of episodes was not disclosed.

A pilot named Will Mackenzie and Doctor Astrid Greenwood will be the two main characters we will switch off of and use as we try to survive in the game’s wasteland. Although they did not specify the exact number of episodes, Hinterland does estimate the full story mode will last about 12 hours with each episode running from two-three hours so about five episodes most likely.

Hinterland’s founder, Raphael van Lierop stated that “After keeping our community in the dark about our plans for Story Mode, we’re thrilled to finally be able to reveal some details of what we’ve been working on alongside the over 75 updates we’ve made to Sandbox Mode over the last year. Our success on Early Access proved there’s an audience for a more thoughtful survival experience, and the resources we’ve been able to invest in the game will help us pursue our ambitions around storytelling as we continue to expand this world. We see a bright future for The Long Dark, and are committed to a long-term relationship with our players.”

The current price of $19.99 will remain the same and include the first episode once it releases. Those who do not purchase the game before then will have to pony up a few extra dollars for each individual episode.
