The Now-Closed Capcom Vancouver Once Pitched A Dino Crisis Remake, But Capcom Japan Didn’t Agree

In recent years, Capcom has been on the rise regarding remakes for fan-favorite entries from the publisher’s beloved repertoire of games. With the recent release of the Resident Evil 3 Remake arriving back in April, the firm is already reported to be underway with a new reimagining for 2005’s Resident Evil 4 aimed to arrive later on in 2022. However, there were more plans to introduce other favored entries that were shot down by Capcom in Japan.

According to a recent video from DidYouKnowGaming?, Liam Robertson discloses that the now-shuttered Capcom Vancouver initially wanted to develop a remake for the 1999 title, but Capcom Japan did not agree with the team’s ambitions.

The Vancouver branch then attempted to revive survival-horror series Dino Crisis with a new game for modern hardware. This endeavour never advanced beyond the pitching phase, being shot down by Capcom Japan after a few months of work. Developers believed that they were unwilling to make the significant investment in new technology that the project would have required.

Back in March, it was speculated that Capcom could potentially be working out an agreement for Dino Crisis with the appointing of M-Two for an upcoming, larger project that was reported at the time. However, recognized insider @AestheticGamer1 on Twitter disclosed that would certainly not be the case alongside hopes for Code Veronica either. The project was later uncovered to be the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Robertson alongside reporting that Dino Crisis was scrapped for a remake also included Resident Evil X dubbed ‘Project REX’, a new installment for the Onimusha series, and a new title utilizing the Mage Man property. However, despite the team’s ambitions to expand its development creativity, Capcom Japan only wished for the developer to focus on Dead Rising before the studio was closed in 2018.

Currently, Capcom’s main focus looks to be the coming release of Resident Evil 8 next year. The firm shared the game’s presence last week during the PlayStation 5 showcase and unveils that Village will ship to for both Sony’s new system alongside the Xbox Series X simultaneously.
