After a longing drought, Prince of Persia made a glowing return this year. “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of innovative gameplay, a compelling narrative, and exquisite artistic design. The game not only pushes the boundaries of traditional gaming experiences but also immerses players in a visually stunning world inspired by the rich tapestry of Persian mythology,” our review for The Lost Crown shared with a 9.5/10 score.
Entering further into 2024, more Prince of Persia was promised for the series. In a report from InsiderGaming, a new sidescroller dubbed ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’ is planned to release. What’s more, it would not be from Ubisoft, but instead a different developer entirely. Shortly after the report it was officially revealed with studio Evil Empire at the reigns of the new game.
Following a short delay, The Rogue Prince of Persia is out now via Early Access. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:
“At Early Access launch, there will be six biomes available, and two bosses. Those biomes represent the first act of the game, so it’s the base of the game. During Early Access, we will add two more bosses and three more biomes. By 1.0 release, we’ll have doubled the content,” game director Lucie Dewagnier shares.
“Honestly, we could have done the game without Early Access, but at Evil Empire, we truly believe in the strength of working with the community. So we want to work with them to have their feedback, what they want for the game. We want a lot of feedback, and it will drastically change the course of the game.”
Beyond 2D sidescrollers, the long-promised Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still in development. Last heard about the project after being handed to Ubisoft Montreal, it is still in its “conception phase,” still years away from release. You can read the full report by heading here.
