As of recently there’s been more Japanese made titles coming to the Xbox platform. With many saying that there wasn’t much of an demand for it on Xbox, but seeing how the announcement of NeiR: Automata coming to Microsoft’s platform got received, there is a visible community for more Japanese created titles.
Now according to a recent interview with French Outlet Gameblog, there is a chance of seeing Sega’s Yakuza series make it way to Xbox. When asked if Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, both originally made for Playstation 3, would be coming to the Nintendo Switch as it could probably run both titles fairly well on the new handheld. But the idea was shorty shutdown as a response from Yakuza Director Daisuke Sato.
Previously back in 2013 the first installment of the Yakuza series was announced with HD remasters of the Playstation 2 titles for Nintendo’s Wii U. But the game failed miserably like most third party titles on that platform and now coming with the idea of bring more games to the Switch rubbed Sega the wrong way.
Stated in the interview by Sato, that the developer is looking to expand the franchise to different platforms still despit what happened on the Wii U:
“But our goal is still to develop cross-platform as much as possible, and we know that it brings an extra audience.” Says Sato. “Regarding Xbox One, we could consider it, knowing that Xbox One users might be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. That could be an option.”
For the possibility of seeing a Yakuza title would be great to keep the market diverse with different titles as there is a present market for these title. With the recent announcement of Shenmue 1 & 2 coming to Xbox and other platforms, we could see this becoming a reality at some point in the future.
