Creator of Undertale Toby Fox recently teased a new project that fans would find “VERY, VERY, INETRESTING”. Unsure of what it was, fans waited patiently for what could be another story tied to the 2015 title. The time came for the announcement revealing Deltarune, along with a download for the first chapter of the game for PC.
Using the same gameplay mechanics as the prior title, Deltarune expands on both the game’s mechanisms and story which left fans in an enigma. Fox asks those who played to hold off on discussing the game to allow players to enjoy the game without any disruptions for the first 24 hours of the game’s appearance. After the day passed, he posted an statement regarding the game with some answers that fans have been asking.
I will say that basically, what you’re seeing here is not the world of UNDERTALE.
UNDERTALE’s world and ending are the same as however you left them.
If everyone was happy in your ending, the people in the UNDERTALE world will still be happy.
So, please don’t worry about those characters, and that world. It will remain untouched.
Emphasizing on the game’s relation to Undertale, Fox wants to reassure that the demo of the upcoming title shouldn’t be worried to connect to his previous project. Stating that the two hour long demo was in development as far back as 2014, he confirms that he wants to continue the project with a team after working primarily alone on his first title. With problems such as the complexity of the game’s graphics, over complicated battle system, and cast of multiple protagonists make it nearly unrealistic to create the game with only one person.
“However, it MIGHT be possible to create the game if I’m able to make a team” Fox says in his statement. “So I’m going to try making a team. Because I really want to make this. But I may not be able to succeed because I have no experience successfully directing a team and I have no idea who I’m going to work with”.
Adding onto his statement for Deltarune, Fox stated that it’s still unknow when we can expect the following chapters for the unreleased game. Mentioning that any upcoming installments will be available through “one purchase” when they are all completed. And no, there won’t be any planned pre-orders for the game either. For what platforms the game will be available on, he says that he’s not even sure what generation the game will be available on mentioning the “PlayStation 14”.
Closing his statement, he left a paragraph regarding fans expectation for Deltarune compared to Undertale:
The expectations for my next work would be really high, so high that I knew that no matter what I did, I felt like people would be underwhelmed. If you played Undertale, I don’t think I can make anything that makes you feel ‘that way’ again. However, it’s possible I can make something else. It’s just something simple but maybe you’ll like it.
For additional information on the demo, I suggest you read the entire statement below. As Toby Fox’s new work is ambitious and more intricate, patience will play a big part if you will want to see the final version in the future. And those who haven’t yet played the demo, it’s best you do to experience what’s next to come from the mind behind Undertale.
