Over the last couple of years since the initial release of DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront II, the game has been subjected to a complete overhaul in the character for the project and injecting requested content that continued to allow the game to thrive well into the new decade. With the game’s initial controversy of microtransactions flooding the 2017-released title, many were convinced the game could not see the light of day following what happened during its launch.

But since then – as already said, Swedish developer DICE has continued to revamp the identity of Battlefront II with content updates and dozens of game patches and bug squashing has brought us to the game we see today. And today marks the addition of yet another content update: Battle on Scarif.

Shared to be arriving earlier this year, this next title update introduces the highly-anticipated Age of Rebellion with Supremacy and Instant Action being applied to a handful of popular maps in the game like Hoth, Death Star II, and Rogue One’s Scarif. To properly tell some of the pivotal moments would be expected for this era of warfare, these battles will be taking place through different phases.

In result some maps, excluding Death Star II & Scarif, will allow players to fly starfighters to truly imbed the feel of the battle during the time period. DICE goes on to share that the Heroes and Villains game mode will be receiving Crait and Scarif as playable locations. Co-Op will also be introduced to Scarif alongside the MC85 Star Cruiser and First order Star Destroyer. Even more, players can expect to take the game type offline now thanks to the new update.

Furthermore, DICE goes on to explain that this update will actually be the last of its kind. In the blog post, the team shares that the studio will be transitioning this game to focus on double XP events and of the likes.

Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.

The same outcome actually came to Battlefield V as well just last week. Despite the game’s release a full year after Battlefront II, DICE has revealed that content will cease development this coming summer. This news comes following Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson stating that the first-person shooter would be receiving add-ons well into fiscal year 2021. You can read the full report by heading here.
