As far as the horizon reveals, the next major release from Bethesda comes in the form of Starfield later this September. Already, it is confirmed that the game is preparing to ship post-launch content for the game as well. In one interview, game director Todd Howard verified it will be in the form of a story expansion that will further expand the literal universe within Starfield. Additionally, users can pre-purchase the Premium Edition Upgrade to grant access to the upcoming add-on for Starfield.
Beyond the current new IP set for this autumn, Bethesda Game Studios is also preparing another promised next-generation release with The Elder Scrolls VI. Announced back in 2018 alongside Starfield, the sixth entry is projected to come well after the upcoming space epic. One report revealed that the game was still in its concept phase as of July 2021. Elsewhere, Phil Spencer did infer that The Elder Scrolls VI would be unique to Xbox Series systems as well.
However, when speaking to IGN Todd Howard revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI might possibly be his late game he works on as time continues to move forward. You can view the interview in the video below:
“If we look at Skyrim, again not the plan to have an Elder Scrolls VI after this far after Skyrim, but in today’s day people are playing these games for longer,” Howard explains the major gaps in time between releases. “So our ability […] to support Starfield where as the old days you would put it out and go on to do a sequel, now we can support that game for much longer period of time which is what our plan is.
“And as we look towards an Elder Scrolls VI, […] if I do the math, I’m not getting any younger: how long is people played Elder Scrolls for? That may be the last one I do, I don’t know.” Elsewhere in the same interview, Howard explained his view on Xbox Game Pass which enables developers to be ambitious with their games as the studios can rely on an audience immediately at launch.
