Believe it or not, Microsoft spared the details about its acquisition of Zenimax Media just this past Monday. The monumental announcement made by the Xbox firm essentially revealed that the company would now be in control of popular IPs such as Fallout, Doom, and The Elder Scrolls as Bethesda is a subsidiary of the acquired parent company.
As well as the good timing for Microsoft to make the $7.5 billion purchase for first-party talent, Bethesda has also been finely tuning its proprietary engines to better suit the standard of next-generation set to arrive in November. Although games from the firm have evolved over the years, this new discovery is told to be the largest in the history of the firm for more than a decade since its last equal advancement.
Game Director Todd Howard when acknowledging the acquisition of Bethesda and its parent company disclosed the new initiative for the firm’s in-house engine to be a grand scale reworking for it.
These new systems are optimized for the vast worlds we love to create, with generational leaps not just in graphics, but CPU and data streaming as well. It’s led to our largest engine overhaul since Oblivion, with all new technologies powering our first new IP in 25 years, Starfield, as well as The Elder Scrolls VI.
Taken that many are familiar with how Bethesda ships its games, its best to hope that the complexity of the titles’ visual appearance does not further plague its projects with more bugs. Joking aside, Bethesda especially now with the resources fueled by Microsoft as being adopted into the Xbox Game Studios first-party network only furthers the chances for more refined titles leading into the next-generation.
Following the announcement of the firm’s acquisition, many fans went to hoping this would bring a sequel for Fallout: new Vegas to fruition. However, as of yet, there is still not certainty that will happen as even Obsidian Entertainment illustrated to be unsure of that possibility. You can read the full report by heading here.
