It has been reported that Sony has cancelled two more live-service games for PlayStation with one of them being from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Studio. The report comes from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg who said one of the cancelled projects was a live-service God of War game which was the game from Bluepoint.
The God of War live-service game has been in development since God of War Ragnarok was released in 2022, but as of January 16, it has been cancelled. Bluepoint from 2020-2022 were helping on God of War Ragnarok and as of today it is unclear what they’ll be working on.
The live-service projects for PlayStation were cancelled “following a recent review”. However, this will not stop Sony from making both online and single-player games.
Bloomberg’s report continued saying neither studio would be shut down. “Both Bend and Bluepoint are accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family,” said a source to the outlet.
It’s not confirmed whether there will be any layoffs due to Sony’s latest move. This wouldn’t be the first live-service game PlayStation had cancelled. Concord was cancelled after it was released for a couple of weeks in the Summer of 2024.
In other news, Bungie Studios’ new MOBA codenamed Gummy Bears was reportedly moved to another PlayStation Studio. Which studio will take on this project from Bungie has not been figured out, but it would make sense if it’s Bend or Bluepoint.
