Ubisoft Found Revitalizing Splinter Cell Trademark This Week
While publisher Ubisoft is preparing to ship its next line of entries for the firm’s most prominent franchises such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6 in the approaching months, there are also whispers which suggest that another series is set to return in the coming year. Specifically referencing Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, it is told that a new entry in the series is now underway for 2021. Originally reported by Multiplayer.it, the publication disclosed that the unannounced project would ship sometime in 2020 initially, but due to the stressing COVID-19 and its implemented precautionary measures to restrict spreading of the disease required an unfortunate push of its release. Now, there looks to be another sign of a potential sign of evidence suggesting the game is underway. In a recent finding from u/TroLsauros on Reddit, the poster shares that Ubisoft has refreshed the trademark for the Splinter Cell name which was filed just this Monday, August 31. While the firm has simply reinvigorated the trademark by extending it through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), there is not solidified foundation that directly suggests there is a game. However, the filing does happen to fall on the same day as Gods & Monsters was listed in Taiwan with its new name. The title was later verified to be Immortals Fenyx Rising which Ubisoft announced. So in that sense, it is conveniently timed for the listing of the game and the trademark for Splinter Cell to both appear during the same instance. It should also be noted that Rectify Gaming’s April 2018 report disclosing Microsoft’s marketing rights for a selection of games – including the next Splinter Cell – has yet to be proven inaccurate yet. But for now, keep the speculation as a rumor until properly announced. Elsewhere in Splinter Cell-related news, it was reported that John Wick writer Derek Kolstad is collaborating with Netflix to pen the first two season for an upcoming Splinter Cell anime series.
