Ubisoft is going to be giving away DLC from now on, as long as it's not story related

Most people hate DLC and the way publishers go about it. Well, Ubisoft realizes the mistake many are making and is changing their distribution method for the future. It will include all DLC to be free, as long as it does not impact the main experience.
Anne Blondel-Jouin, the VP of Live Operations at Ubisoft, spoke with GamesIndustry and commented on the new change in philosophy. “Monetisation is something we have to be very careful about, and my team is in charge of that and making sure we find a right balance,” Blondel-Jouin says. This means that all new maps, modes etc will be free, with the only charging items being story related content and cosmetics.
“The key is if it’s not adding something on-top of the actual experience of the game, then it is no good. Because you’ll be asking for more money for the wrong reasons. Also, if the content is compulsory for the gamers, it’s no good as well. It is a way to deliver more fun to gamers, but they have a choice to go for that extra fun or not.
The strategy has already been implemented with Rainbow Six Siege and its new maps/modes. Its charged items are customization items and other cosmetics which have no impact on the game whatsoever. Hopefully, more publishers see fit to invoke this new philosophy, let us know what you think below.
