Ubisoft is reportedly working on a new Battle Royale game that will be inspired by Apex Legends. This is according to Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming. After they announced the cancellation of their 2024 FPS title, XDefiant, Ubisoft is committed to creating another first-person shooter.
Tom Henderson said, according to his sources, that “The game has been in development for at least a couple of years and will feature very similar characters to Apex Legends.” He goes on to say there will be a spin on Pathfinder, Wraith, Lifeline, and others from the game.
The goal for Ubisoft is believed to be to capitalize on the player count of Apex Legends dropping, and them thinking there’s room in the market for another hero Battle Royale.
This seems like an interesting move by Ubisoft after XDefiant unfortunately failed for them a few months after it released. The publisher once again could possibly be late to the party, as player counts across all Battle Royale games have seen a decrease in players.
What might be on the upside is that Extraction Shooters and Bungie revealed Marathon for the first time and what it has to offer. While it has received a lot of criticism from fans, the game is planned to be released this September.
Is Ubisoft late to the party when it comes to the Battle Royale genre?
