Ubisoft Reveals New Mobile Project For Rainbow Six Coming To Android & iOS

Under the reign of the first-person shooter genre, players are expanding to new platforms with the ever growing grasp from the mobile gaming market. Although many players are still affixed to the console/PC spectrum for these titles, smartphones are opening a new venue to bring the experience on the go. Activision & Tencent Gaming established this with Call of Duty Mobile more than a year ago.

More recently, Activision is now tackling the same route with its popular Call of Duty Warzone as it bulks up staffing for a dedicated port now underway. Additionally, Respawn Entertainment is also close to its release for Apex Legends Mobile with pre-registration officially live on the Google Play Store.

This week Ubisoft announced its own venture into the mobile gaming platform with Rainbow Six. The new game simply titled ‘Rainbow Six Mobile’ will be a 5v5 first-person shooter unique to Android & iOS. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video:

Creative Director Justin Swan explains that this new project will be a catalyst from the tactical gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege whilst establishing a new experience for players. “First, it’s like the full-fat version of Rainbow Six Siege that everyone knows and loves – the Operators, their abilities. Not all the Operators that Siege now has in its roster, we’ll have more to share on the exact Operators closer to launch.

“The maps are roughly the same maps; there’s a bit of destruction that’s been changed, and other little things have been optimized for mobile – like removing ladders, because they don’t really add that much to the mobile game; there are other ways to get to different spots, and they just add more complexity to navigation.

“But then we’re trying to expand in a lot of places, which is why I’d say it’s not just the same thing. We’re adding more onboarding into the game, and different in-depth Operator unlock and progression systems. And looking toward the future, there’s a reason it’s not called Rainbow Six Siege Mobile; it’s called Rainbow Six Mobile, because it is the mobile representation of the entire Rainbow Six brand. It’s starting off like Rainbow Six Siege, but it’ll evolve very much into its own thing.”

Noted, this will not be the first attempt from Ubisoft to deliver a mobile game utilizing its Tom Clancy IPs. In the past, the firm shipped Elite Squad which conjoined the likes of Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell into one game. However, the game shuttered its lobbies last fall.

Elsewhere, Battlefield is also on the way to mobile gaming as well. Although little is said about the path the game is heading, the title is listed currently over on Google Play Store. It is undetermined if the game will be a new experience or simply following the path of Battlefield 2042/Battlefield Portal. You can read the full report by heading here.
