While the Uncharted film has been pushed yet again with a newly slated box office release for March 2021, actor portrayal for Nathan Drake Tom Holland shares to have recently read an updated draft of the movie’s script and is ecstatic from what his eyes laid upon. “I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.”

Further discussing the state of the production, Holland clarifies that the upcoming game-to-film adaptation could possibly be what Hollywood and video game fans have been hoping to experience – a good video game movie. Sharing that due to the plot debuting the protagonist prior to the titular game series, this opens more opportunity for appeal to the viewer.

Here is Tom Holland’s full statement regarding the approach used for the film:

I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.

While the starring actor continues to praise the possibilities he foresees for the project alongside what resides in the newest script for the film, the Uncharted movie currently stands with no active director. Back in December, it was shared that then-standing director Travis Knight would be stepping down from the position. However, rumors later surfaced of potentially nabbing Ruben Fleischer to take over for the role Knight left empty.

Dissecting Fleischer’s previous work, he has worked very closely with Sony on productions like Zombieland and the more recent Venom. If these claims happens to be true, Fleischer seems like the likeliest candidate to hold a solid place as director from is repertoire on other Sony Pictures projects.

Are you still excited to see the Uncharted film?

Uncharted is scheduled to open in theaters on March 5, 2021.
