Just a few days ago developer Infinity Ward opened the hood for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to show off what the game’s multiplayer portion will offer when the game releases this coming October. Alongside the bevy of changes and additions that are already in what was presented, the studio also announced that a beta is planned to go live in the following month for players to feel out the waters before the game’s release.
While players on Sony’s platform will have a week head start to play the upcoming military, first-person shooter, competing Xbox One and PC will also receive the beta in the week after. On top of the playtest coming to the major platforms, players will also have the opportunity to try out the cross play feature for the game when the beta is live for all hardware.

Modern Warfare’s Creative Director and Infinity Ward Co-Founder Patrick Kelly shares a statement regarding the coming beta:
Our goal with Modern Warfare is to bring all gamers together from day one to play together. We’re doing away with the season pass; we’re delivering a mix of free maps, a ton of content following launch, and we’re developing the game for crossplay. We’re live-testing now, and fans will get to try for themselves next month in the Beta. This is a new day for Call of Duty multiplayer, and today is just the start — we have many more exciting reveals coming for fans that we can’t wait to share.
Though it is no news that the finished product will feature cross play compatibility between each supported platforms later this Fall, it is a surprise that the approaching playtest will also include feature as well. The beta will be kicking off on September12 first on PlayStation 4 following with the remaining platforms on September 19.
