While the Saints Row IP has been on continuous hiatus since the launch of Saints Row IV back in 2013 – excluding the spin-off Saints Row: Gat out of Hell – fans continue to sit hungry following since for a new entry. But while developer Volition went on to ship Agents of Mayhem later on, it did not fuel the flames for its followers even with a Johnny Gat add-on then. But, there is a new game on the way THQ Nordic initially hinted back in 2019.
It was not until this past week at Gamescom Opening Night Live that we now understand the future of the franchise. Prior to the virtual showcase, host Geoff Keighley teased that a new release is on the way that is ‘Rebooting’ the series. Then at the presentation last Wednesday, Volition shares a complete retelling of the IP is what is to ship later on in early 2022. However, many beloved fans were vocal on the disconnect of the new project to the original releases.
After a bombardment of responses to the studio’s social accounts and the reveal trailer for the game, Volition went on to respond with a GIF reading, “Haters Gonna Hate”. Following, one user continued with criticism of the creative decision where Volition confirmed it will proceed with its choice for the release; which you can read below:
Since the game’s announcement, Volition went on to deliver a second trailer for the game which features in-game footage of Saints Row. Unlike the original trailer, real-time gameplay is presented which offers a better grasp on the title when come release. But, despite the transparency of the game when it ships, the response towards Saints Row still remains to be negative overall.
Ultimately, it appears that fans were itching to see a release return to the roots of the series of street crime and gang battles. But instead, many comment about their disgust casting “Google employees” and “hipsters” to portray the Third Street Saints. What is your take on Saints Row so far?
