“Co-op is everywhere lately. What used to be a genre reserved strictly for beat em ups has grown and expanded to almost every style of game possible. Great co-op, takes a games core concept and embellishes it when another player plays with that tool set,” our critic David Rodriguez gave for his reception of Wasteland 3 during its release. “Wasteland 3 has excellent co-op, and it’s a not just well implemented, it’s been my preferred way of exploring this fantastic new entry in this classic series.”
Since the game’s inception though, developer InXile Entertainment continued to carry this emphasis on a cooperative experience in the long-awaited third game. With its extensive story campaigns and later with DLCs such as ‘The Battle of Steeltown’, players find more reason to group up for Wasteland 3. And that is to continue with the latest announcement for the game.
At this week’s Xbox Gamescom Livestream, InXile Entertainment introduced the new ‘Cult of the Holy Detonation’ DLC coming to Wasteland 3 later this fall. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:
“Cult of the Holy Detonation expands the Wasteland 3 experience with entry into the Cheyenne Mountain complex, crammed with new characters, enemies, challenging combat encounters, and powerful new weapons and armor,” the description for the trailer shares. “Your squad of Rangers will be tested like never before in objective-based encounters that put a creative spin on the already deeply tactical turn-based combat.
“As they face overwhelming odds, the Rangers will need to shut down reactors, clear ventilation systems, and engage defensive countermeasures to stem an unending tide of dangerous mutants and machines within the dilapidated military bunker.” Noted, InXile Entertainment whilst shipping more expansions for Wasteland 3 is developing a new Unreal Engine 5 project according to a previous job listing for the team.
While little detail is for certain on what the next project will be from the developer, it was later discovered that the team is working on a first-person shooter. In a different job listing it reveals that the game will also exhibit RPG elements as well in the unnamed title. You can read the full report by heading here.
