Watch Dogs 2 Will Not Feature Towers

One of Ubisoft’s most criticized mainstays, the climbing of towers to reveal activities in the area is on its way out.
Regardless of the quality of the game, Ubisoft had always received criticism for the over use of the tower mechanic. Starting out in Assassin’s Creed the mechanic soon found its way in to games like Far Cry and the original Watch Dogs.
However Watch Dogs 2 and it’s developers are opting to go a different route. Speaking to Eurogamer, creative director Jonathan Morin announced that “there are no towers. You just explore the world.” Morin continued “it’s not a game where you open your map and everything’s there.”
Watch Dogs 2 opens itself up the more the player gets involved with DedSec, the in-game hacker group.
“Every time you get followers, it’s like you’re unlocking the DedSec hivemind. You’re also unlocking new knowledge, new operations, new co-op missions. And then organically you hit those end-game milestones,” Morin added.
This ties in to one of the key objectives for Watch Dogs 2: freedom. The developers want each player’s version of San Francisco to be free and there own.
“You can barely touch the story. You have many different operations which give you followers, which guide your progression,” Morin explained, adding that there’ll be three “milestones” you need to hit to wrap up the game’s story.
“But, mathematically you can unlock everything else through co-op or free-roam.”
