Cross platform gaming is getting closer than ever to becoming a reality.
After Jeremy Dunham, the VP of Psyonix, said that “technologically, everything works” for cross platform play on there hit game Rocket League people started to think this could be the beginning of a new era of gaming. However with Sony yet to take Microsoft up to open up it seemed that another roadblock was in place. That was until EA held their Investor Day.
The company revealed during the presentation that a key element of the EA Growth Strategy for the coming years was going to be EA Player Network.
The aim of this network? To allow players to connect to their favourite EA games on their favourite platform and then to connect their friends on the same game but on a different platform. On top of this the EA Player Network would also allow for saves to be transferred across platforms.
The hope of all this work is that, by increasing the connectivity of players it will lead to a more dynamic experience for the players and thus keep them engaged for longer.
This is a gigantic proposal put forward by EA, but one that if they pull off could see them revered by gamers for generations. Our money is on EA’s E3 Press Conference being the spot for more details!
