Although Gears of War – now titled ‘Gears’ – is renowned as a beloved IP for Xbox, the series has been dormant for quite a few years now. In recent time, there are whispers of a new Master Chief Collection-esque project being tested internally at The Coalition. From Cliff Bleszinski, a major leader during the initial trilogy for Gears of War, said a reboot would be good for the franchise moving forward.
Additionally, Bleszinski did express his approval on a new development for the Gears film. Although little has been said on the direction the Gears of War movie is heading since it landed at Netflix before, Justice League & Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder expressed he’d take a jab at the project. In response, Bleszinski said he’s behind that if Snyder were to get the director’s chair.
Recently in a post on X, Bleszinski has made a new post directly addressing his current state of mind on Gears of War. Although he truly loves the property being part of his legacy, he is moving on from the series with new projects on the horizon and Microsoft’s lack of engagement to get him aboard even as an consultant.

“I’m down to consult. Give my two cents. Crickets,” Bleszinski wrote in the post. “MS/Coalition haven’t hit me up. OK. It is what it is. If they were smart, they’d enlist me for my input because, just from a PR standpoint alone it would be gold. But nothing. Ah well. It is what it is. So be it.” Bleszinski goes on to reference Boss Key Games, a venture he pursued following the Gears IP being acquire by Xbox and later shuttering in 2018.
Bleszinski also continues referencing his work as of late. He notes his effort on Broadway. He shared his work involved in Hadestown previously. Alongside stand-up comedy, he is also releasing a new comic series – Scrapper. You can view more on the new graphic novel by heading here.
