For more than half a year ago already, the future of the WWE 2K series has been in question of whether the annual installments will continue to release or not. This speculation was sourced by the report that surfaced back in August which disclosed that Yuke’s, the studio grandfathered into developing games for the professional wrestling brand, would not be working on future installments.

Instead, publisher 2K announced that the NBA 2K studio Visual Concepts will inherit development for upcoming releases. But what brought this into question for no follow-up entries was entailed by the reception of the most recent WWE 2K20 and the separate NBA 2K20 which fans both viewed to be less favorable releases.

Now according to the First Quarter earnings shared by the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc, there is no plans for 2021 to receive a new game. This news comes from Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin who reported the information yesterday.

Going from the wording of the tweet, Satin only discloses that the presumable release for 2021’s WWE 2K release will not be arriving later this year. However, room for clarification has yet to be provided as of reporting. Luckily, both 2K alongside the series’ Twitter account addressed that information on the matter will be clarified this coming Monday, April 27.

The most recent WWE 2K20 happened to be one of the most memorable releases in the series as the game launched with several issues and game-breaking bugs that swayed the game’s 43 percent reception on Metacritic for PlayStation 4 and PC.

What do you think the future holds for WWE 2K?

The latest entry WWE 2K20 is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
