The conversation for AI in gaming has remained a talking point for the past year. While many believe it takes from the creators, there are arguments on how it can be beneficial in cutting costs for development. Already, PlayStation announced its own Project Amethyst initiative with AMD to produce tools for improved visuals & performance of its games. Additionally, Microsoft also reveals Muse: its own in-house toolset for Xbox first-party.

Of course, Microsoft is no stranger to AI with efforts like Copilot. In fact, the firm has been testing the tools in other aspects. Previously, it was teased in a keynote last year with Copilot assisting in Minecraft. Even more, there is also Game Assist which has rolled out for PC not too long ago. Moreover, The Verge also reported that an AI chatbot is also being pieced together internally for Xbox as well.

In the most recent Xbox Podcast, Microsoft shares that Copilot is officially coming in a future update for Xbox Insiders. The firm addresses that the implementation will be beneficial for users that need help or to even engage with when playing. You can watch the segment of the podcast in the video below:

“Actually it’s fancy that you mentioned Copilot for gaming because that is one of the things that we are working on and we want to bring it out to players to try. Copilot in the context of Xbox has to be about gameplay. It has to be personalized to you the way that you like to play and it should be able to help you kind of get further in gaming, be your companion, and help connect you with families and communities. AI is going to be there and you can chat with it and it can trash talk you if that’s what you need,” corporate vice president of Gaming AI Fatima Kardar shares.

“But really, AI can bring those people together and help you tell you when your friends are doing things as well. […] It’s not just about AI showing up to help you. It’s about AI showing up at the right moment. So I think we have to really think of the experience that we built. It can’t be intrusive, right? It cannot show up in the middle of the game. It’s a little bit of an art and it is a little bit of like, let’s have people try it and kind of find out from them what it would be in those kinds of games.”
