To fans that continued to follow the news trail behind One More level’s Ghostrunner since its announcement back at Gamescom in August 2019, you should be familiar with the game’s arrival officially taking place this Tuesday. Excitingly, the graces all major platforms, yes even Nintendo Switch, with a new cybernetic experience injected with neon lights and post-urban acoustics.

And while the current onslaught of console systems do the job fairly, the next wave of commercial hardware is just around the corner. With less than a month until the arrival of the succeeding Xbox Series X|S alongside PlayStation 4, the developer alongside publisher All In! Games and 505 Games announce Ghostrunner is expected to hit next-gen in 2021.

In a new blog post, the firms share that users on the current family of Xbox and PlayStation systems will be eligible to upgrade to the next-generation version for free. Xbox Series X|S users are said to expect the upgrade via the Smart Delivery feature whilst PlayStation 5 owners will find the upgrade free on the PlayStation Store.

“Ghostrunner is a game all about movement,” the synopsis reads from the post. “Yes, it has a great story too, hitting those classic cyberpunk themes of corruption, power, and technologies gone rogue, but its moment-by-moment mechanics are somewhere between the insta-kill ultraviolence of Hotline Miami and the breathtaking free-flowing movement of Dishonored.”

If you ar still on the fence about Ghostrunner, we suggest you read Rectify Gaming’s feature of the game from PAX East 2020. We manage to get a hands on with the game alongside speak on the background of the project with game director Radoslaw Ratusznik. You can read the full coverage on the game by heading here.

Are you planning to revisit Ghostrunner on next-gen?

Ghostrunner is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC; arriving to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021.
