In May when Ubisoft San Francisco released its new free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant, it looked like this would be a great hit for the developer and publisher. In just its first few hours of launch, it was reported that XDefiant reached over 1 million players. Within its first month, over 11 million players have already played the new FPS.
Insider Gaming has reported that several of its sources at Ubisoft that XDefiant has struggled to obtain its concurrent player count. The outlet reports that the game is even struggling to obtain 20,000 concurrent players across all of the available platforms. It seemed to even drop further as Tom Henderson says a source of his “Ubisoft would probably be happy with that number”.

It is reported that Ubisoft San Francisco has until the end of Season 3 for XDefiant to improve its player numbers.
In our review, we state there isn’t anything overly spectacular about the game that sets it apart from what else is already out there like Call of Duty, Overwatch, or Apex Legends.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on the horizon and its Beta already in session it will be tough for Ubisoft to get players to play XDefiant at its current stage. The live service model may have hurt what could potentially be a great first-person shooter.
XDefiant is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
