A Minecraft Movie earned $57 million in its opening day

A Minecraft Movie starring Jack Black has officially been released in theaters as of Friday, April 4, 2025. The movie did open at select theaters on April 3 and it broke over $10M on that day. It was announced that on its official opening day, A Minecraft Movie earned $57 million in its domestic opening day.

It’s the biggest opening day for a video game movie ever, surpassing Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and others.

Minecraft Movie Reviewed Poorly

A Minecraft Movie that stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, among others, received harsh reviews on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Currently, the film stands at a 48%, but the audience rates it at 87% to this point. The movie is still young, so things can change quickly.

The movie promotions have taken over McDonald’s over the last week. Adult Meals at McDonald’s are now available, and they come with a collectible toy.
