The state of Death Stranding remains in hiatus with hopes a sequel is on the way. Most recently, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut officially made its way to PC in late March. However, word on the next move for the team is left unanswered. While there is rumors suggesting Hideo Kojima is also collaborating with Xbox for an exclusive release, there is whispers of a second Death Stranding as well.
While reputable sources yet to have a say on the matter, believe it or not but actor Norman Reedus shared the next game is already underway. In an interview last year, Reedus shared that the new game is in the pipeline already. “I think we’re doing a second Death Stranding. [The game] is in negotiations now. So… Yay,” Reedus told Adorocinema back in August.
Well according to a new interview with Leoedit, Reedus further validates his original statement by sharing he’s already begun working on the next one. “We just started the second one.” Reedus also continues sharing his experience meeting Kojima for Silent Hills initially and his reasoning to jump aboard without a second guess.
Guillermo Del Toro, who gave me my first movie, called me up and said, “Hey, there’s a guy named Hideo Kojima, he’s gonna call you, just say yes.” And I go, “What do you mean just say yes?” He goes, “Stop being an asshole, just say yes.” Then I was in San Diego and Hideo came with a big group of people, he’s from Tokyo, and he showed me what he was working on on a game called Silent Hill. I was blown away by what he was showing me, and I was like, “Yes, let’s do this.” It’s not Ms. Pacman; it’s so realistic, it’s so futuristic, it’s so complicated and beautiful, and I was completely blown away.
He added, “It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.” As for Death Stranding 2 when it releases, it will likely be unique to PlayStation and later PC once more with Sony Interactive Entertainment publishing the first game.
However, Kojima Productions remains an independent team. In a recent statement online, Kojima shared an image of PlayStation Studios. After giving the wrong impression, he expressed that the developer will not be facing an acquisition by the PlayStation firm after all. You can read the full report by heading here.
