Over the past few months PlayStation followers have been eagerly waiting for Sony to take the spotlight to finally share new information on the approaching, next-generation console. And while it was just back in that the firm pressed on the system’s core architecture and spoke about the likes of supported backwards compatibility, there is still plenty of burning questions still lingering for fans to be answered.

This radio silence from the company has led to some speculating that the new hardware might actually be expecting a delay either due to the overly touting the intricate foundation for the system’s interior sculpture or the ongoing pandemic that several markets have faced decline in for majority of this year. However, Sony has reassured that the system is still settled to arrive later this holiday season.

The company announced this twice actually: the first being back in late-March when speaking with Bloomberg to where a spokesperson projected the console’s release to be “unaffected” later this holiday season. The news also happens to fall the same time that Sony reworked the console’s website advertising the system to ship “Holiday 2020.”

The second instance occurred just last month where the firm, again, spoke with Bloomberg to relay the same message for the system’s debut in the coming holiday season. Sony then added that the company is looking to possibly pursue an online press conference to disclose its details regarding release date, pricing, and unveil the physical unit at said showcase sometime in the coming future.

Now according to the Financial Statements closing the fiscal year for Sony, the firm shares that the company is still anticipating to launch the PlayStation 5 later in holiday 2020.

Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season.

In the same financial report, Sony disclosed that PlayStation 4 only received a “slight impact” for production of units during the ongoing pandemic, but shares to be in control when compared to the limited units sold over on Nintendo’s side of the river. Regardless, Nintendo showed to perform extremely well following the close of the fiscal year as Nintendo Switch now sits at more than 60 million units when combining sales of the base unit and new Lite model.

Now understanding for a third time that is definite Sony be shipping its newest unit in the latter of this year, we are still unsure where that lands exactly. Howbeit, there does happen to be an understanding of a release window for the console. According to job listings uncovered this week, the findings suggest the console is set to release later this October. You can read the full report by heading here.
