The Nintendo Switch continues to show fantastic growth just three years following the system’s initial release back in early 2017 and with the release of a second iteration just this past September, the hardware is taking on two fronts under the same brand. Previously, the most noticed achievement for the hybrid handheld console was that the system managed to overtake Xbox One lifetime sales within half the time back in December.
Now this week, Nintendo released its financial statement for the most recent financial quarter and reveals that the billboard unit alongside the newer portable alternative still performed well despite the economic crisis still going underway. In the released document, Nintendo shares that the base Nintendo Switch finally overtaken 55 million sold units as of recording.
Listed at 55.77 million to be more precise, this is as expected from the initial 52 million recorded at the end of 2019. Nintendo lists about 3.29 million products were purchased since the commencement of the new decade to the final day of March. Alongside the traditional system, the Nintendo Switch Lite also showed to perform well also with 6.19 million units distributed in retail purchases since its launch last fall.
Combining the two would exceed sales into 60 million easily, edging fairly close to a conjoined 62 million units sold. Nintendo continues on to reveal that the hardware sale at the end of the fiscal year is up nearly 25 percent 21.03 million units sold in contrast to last year for 2018. Software sale also received a heavy influx of nearly double hardware with 42.3 percent increase founded by 168.72 million units sold within the fiscal year.
Among the first-party software that was listed, Animal Crossing: New Horizons happens to be the most noted release as the month-old title shipped 11.7 million units. Now the game is trailing behind Sword & Pokémon Shield which is ranked at 17.37 million. But with nearly 75 percent less time to establish in the market, New horizons does show a likeliness to overtake Game Freak’s latest entry in the coming future.
