Amazon Is Building A Tomb Raider Franchise With Connecting Film, TV Series, And Video Game

The Tomb Raider franchise currently sits in a hiatus following the release for 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Since then, developer Crystal Dynamics has went on to tackle Marvel’s Avengers alongside assisting development for Xbox Game Studios & The Initiative’s Perfect Dark Remake. But, the series will not be dormant forever.

Last year, the game studio announced a new game is in the works and will be utilizing the new game building suite, Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, a separate report disclosed plans at Amazon to be overseeing a new release as it plans to pose as a publisher. But that is not all with Netflix previously reported to be responsible for an upcoming anime series as well.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is going all in on everything Tomb Raider. Not only is the video game report true, but the firm is also engaging in an upcoming film and television show which will all be interconnected. The stories from each medium will be vital to understand the direction this new story will go.

Dmitri M. Johnson’s dj2 Entertainment is said to be involved with the aforementioned film underway. Atop of that, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Goodbye Christopher Robin) is to be overseeing the TV series. While Waller-Bridge is involved, it is reported she is not set to star in the show. Details regarding the intertwined video game project has been left out if Crystal Dynamics is attached or Amazon will simply outsource a different team.

For those who may not recall, a sequel to 2018’s Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider film was in the works and even slated for a box office release of March 2021. However, the production was pulled from the box office projection list and left undetermined if the film will ever make it to theaters on the silver screen.
