Amazon Prime Officially Green Lights New God Of War Television Series

In the up and coming for PlayStation’s God of War franchise, it is to be transitioning into a TV show. Previously, Deadline reported that Amazon Prime was to propose a television series in conjunction with PlayStation Productions to get the show afloat. In a later finding from corporate Sony’s conference call in May, the show was confirmed to be pursued.

This went on to verify a Horizon Zero Dawn project at Netflix alongside an upcoming Gran Turismo motion picture as well. This past month, God of War Ragnarok launched offering our highest rated title from Rectify Gaming for this year. “Kratos and Atreus are the heart and steel that forge God of War Ragnarök into a flawless and fitting end to the Norse Saga,” critic David Rodriguez penned for his summary.

Now in a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime officially issued the go for the upcoming God of War television series. As reported prior, the new production consists of Rafe Judkins (Wheel of Time) to showrun alongside Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby (Iron Man, The Expanse) to pen the script.

We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series. Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series that charts a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos.

Katherine Pope, Sony Pictures TV President

“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world,” the synopsis for the show reads.

“God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling,” Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios head of global television said. “We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and [game developer] Santa Monica Studio.”

“God of War is one of PlayStation’s most awarded video games, so we’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way,” adds PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash.
