
For publisher Electronic Arts, it is no secret the number the firm has done on annual sports game releases with the continued success that comes with Madden NFL. The most recent release, Madden NFL 23, goes full circle with the titular John Madden on the cover of the current-generation & next-generation packaging.Â
Additionally, the firm is also in the middle of reviving college football games as well. While the next fleet of titles is undetermined being NCAA once more, Electronic Arts did sign a new partnership with the CLC (Collegiate Licensing Co.) and is promised to go beyond previous NCAA games. Now, it appears that Electronic Arts might also be involved in a film as well.
From Deadline, it reports a new origin picture based on the Madden NFL video game series is being discussed as part of a deal with Amazon/MGM. Even more is David O. Russell (American Hustle, Amsterdam) is to direct said movie. The film is said to have been on ice for sometime due to the ongoing writer’s strike. Cambron Clark (The Last Ride) penned the script.
As for actors mentioned of the film, Will Farrell is said to be attached for the lead. Farrell is known for his work in comedies including Step Brothers, Elf, and the upcoming Greta Gerwig picture, Barbie. Farrell is also noted for a string of sports-related films including Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Blades of Glory, and Kicking & Screaming.
Regarding other sports-centered video game adaptations, PlayStations Productions’ Gran Turimo is heading to theaters later this August. The picture follows the tale of a true story for one competitive player earning his way to the track with David Harbour leading. You can read the full report by heading here.
